Over the years, there are some books that have helped me to make steps and even jump over steps and also made me see that there aren’t no damn steps to begin with, that I’m already here. These books helped me to recognise what I already have and how I can shine the light within. You’ll notice a common thread amongst them all. It is the unlearning and remembering process. This quote by Michelangelo describes this more – “The sculpture is already complete within the marble block, before I start my work. It is already there, I just have to chisel away the superfluous material.”

A Course in Miracles
I start with this book because it is my everyday go to book. It really isn’t a “book”, it’s a course. The words and lessons help me to open many doors to inner peace. I have unlearned so much and it was very relaxing. In fact, it was freeing! It’s not “Many are called but few are chosen”, it’s instead “All are called but few choose to listen.” A very practical everyday spiritual guide and foundation for inner peace.
The Power of Now
I learned how to “slow down” time and maximize my intellect by sitting in the moment. It helped steer me out of my insanity of the next moment and the next moment. The next moment always simply become THIS moment. Lyrical lavender .. very calming.
Courage (The Joy of Living Dangerously)
Oh heavens! This is one of the best books out there. It defied and challenged my belief systems and self-limitations. I asked a guy out on a date while reading this book so be careful what bold things you desire to do because this IS going to free you to be free. Taken from the book, this quote is the chair I lay in and the wheels that carry me, “The greatest fear in the world is of the opinions of others. And the moment you are unafraid of the crowd you are no longer a sheep, you become a lion.”
As a Man Thinketh
If there is a book that drops all defenses and showed me that I’m responsible for where I am and it’s not my parents or community’s fault, it’s this one here. James Allen has an artistic way of putting words together that result in many light-bulb and aha moments. Like, you really get it after all that, as we think so are we. Here are two quotes from the book:
“Man is buffeted by circumstances so long as he believes himself to be the creature of outside conditions, but when he realizes that he is a creative power, and that he may command the hidden soil and seeds of his being out of which circumstances grow, he becomes the rightful master of himself.”
“…for he will have noticed that the alteration in his circumstances has been in exact ratio with his altered mental condition.”
Think and Grow Rich
If you read my previous blog post, you’ll see a miraculous experience I had solely from reading this book. This book mirrors James Allen’s As a Man Thinketh but with a business focus. Hill is a class act as he speaks not just of one’s thinking but also of practical steps such as forming a mastermind alliance. It’s a book that made me wonder, what happened? Who read books like this and never passed it on? That’s why I’m passing this message on to you.
A Return to Love
I believe that Marianne Williamson and I speak the same language! By allowing herself to be a vessel of Love, my spirit and ears hear her words. I forgave myself for many things in the past and I laughed a good deal at the insane world I had created. When you think you’ve hit rock bottom, there is no other place to return but to your place of Love.
The Alchemist
Great for us who have spent almost our entire lives asking for feedback, looking for answers from others and wanting that nod of “yes you’re in the right direction.” An amazing story of courage and just doing it knowing that the entire world will support you. One of the book’s lessons reminds me of an Akan saying from Ghana – Woforo Dua Pa A, which means ‘he who climbs a good tree gets a push’. The Universe will conspire to help you bring life to your dreams. It is a beautiful beautiful story that leaves you wanting to know what happens next.
